Appen, a global leader in the development of high-quality, human-annotated datasets for machine learning and artificial intelligence, is seeking participants for a large-scale Chinese Accented English speech collection project. This will help us to better understand how humans interact with a conversational bot (such as Amazon's Alexa or Apple's Siri) and to improve the technologies behind such devices.
Qualified participants will record short samples of speech based on the prompts shown on their phone screen, via an app available for both Android and iOS. To qualify, participants must have grown up or spent most of their lives in China, be able to read and write in English, and have access to a good Wi-Fi connection. Applicants will be provided with instructions that they must carefully follow in order to complete the task correctly and receive compensation. The task should take approximately 60 minutes and qualified participants will receive compensation for their time via PayPal within 10 business days of completion. As collection may be terminated earlier if enough recordings are collected, participants are strongly encouraged to complete the task within 48 hours after receiving the instructions. Remuneration per qualified participant will be AUD $5 or approximately CNY ￥25 (this figure will fluctuate slightly due to varying conversion rates.)
